An end-to-end commercial operator, not just a product manager


I run product businesses end-to-end — from understanding what customers need, to designing the proposition, pricing it for profitable returns, bringing it to market, and managing performance over time.

Most product roles focus on one part of that loop. My experience spans all of it. At Great Southern Bank I had full accountability for a new digital SME banking platform — CVP, product, credit, risk, operations and P&L — built on Constantinople's BaaS architecture and delivered through both a direct channel and an embedded finance partnership with MYOB. Before that, fourteen years at ANZ & NAB across merchant acquiring, commercial lending, deposits and consumer cards gave me depth across every major product category in banking.

I'm also an experienced consultant, having advised fintechs and payments providers on product strategy, market entry, AML/CTF frameworks and commercialisation through my own advisory practice.

I'm based in Melbourne and looking for opportunities in banking, payments, embedded finance or adjacent sectors where complex, commercially accountable work is the expectation.

Commercial product leadership
The full loop: understanding customer needs through qualitative and quantitative research, developing differentiated propositions, building go-to-market strategies, pricing for profitable returns, and managing P&L performance over time. I've done this across merchant acquiring, deposits, transaction banking, and lending — at portfolio scales ranging from 150,000 merchants to 2 million card customers.

At GSB this included close collaboration with Digital and Marketing teams on performance marketing, funnel analytics, segment-specific campaigns, and PMAX optimisation to drive awareness and acquisition. At ANZ and NAB I developed detailed CVPs grounded in direct customer research and built the marketing and sales enablement materials to bring them to market.

Digital banking & platform delivery
Led the design, build and commercialisation of a modern digital SME banking platform on Constantinople's BaaS architecture — one of the first deployments of its kind in Australia. This spanned transaction accounts, saving accounts and term deposits, payments (NPP, DE, PayTo, BPAY, Debit MasterCard), secured and unsecured term lending and overdrafts, invoicing with Stripe payment links, and deep accounting integrations with MYOB and Xero.

Additionally experienced with embedded finance: developing and implementing a tripartite product delivery model across bank (GSB), BaaS provider (Constantinople) and embedded partner (MYOB/Solo Money) — a genuinely novel operating model. These skills translate directly to adjacent sectors including embedded finance platforms, regulated fintech propositions, and tokenised commerce infrastructure.

Supporting both direct and embedded models was the critical focus on the digital customer experience — on both streamlined onboarding and loan application processes, and ongoing use of products and features in the mobile and web channels.

Payments
Deep payments experience across multiple product categories. At ANZ I led the merchant acquiring product function — payment acceptance propositions, pricing, portfolio performance, new product development, scheme economics, and a major strategic review of the business which concluded with board-level decisions on the future operating model.

At GSB I managed payment options for SME customers, including product payment options, payment and liquidity limits, in-app payment management features and invoicing with embedded payment links. My advisory work included providing SME advice for a detailed market entry study for global acquiring business, AML/CTF policy development for a payment service provider, commercialisation pathway options for alternative payments, and conceptual payment solutions for a novel assisted payment service.

Analytics & performance management
I've always built the analytical capability to understand what drives a portfolio — and used it to make better decisions. At ANZ Consumer Cards I built a full card portfolio model for the launch of a new product, modelled the economic impact of introducing a companion card on a million rewards cards, and used detailed credit card vintage analysis to understand balance transfer performance, leading to a CEO-approved resumption post-GFC. For Commercial Deposits I built real-time pricing and margin analytics across all segments. At GSB I championed a Snowflake-based data solution and designed dashboards that gave the cross-functional team shared visibility of daily, weekly and monthly performance, understanding customer activity to optimise marketing activity and drive growth.

I use analytics to inform pricing strategy, identify underperformance, build financial models for investment cases, and measure the effectiveness of marketing and acquisition activity through the funnel. This is the instrument panel for running the commercial engine, and is a legacy of my early life as an engineer.

Risk, compliance & 1st line credit
Compliance and risk management done well is a competitive advantage, not just a requirement. At GSB I held 1st line credit accountability — unusual for a product role — owning credit policy design, multi-factor risk-based pricing models, credit decision system configuration and testing, APS220 assessment and credit model assurance review.

I also developed and operated the full product risk and compliance framework under DDO (RG274), documented and operationalised active control management across the BaaS and embedded finance operating models, and responded to active micro-laundering attacks by adjusting AML rules and onboarding processes. At ANZ I was recognised internally as a leader in product risk management across commercial lending and deposits, with consistently strong audit results. I have extensive, hands-on first line risk experience, including detailed risk analysis, control framework development and implementation, in-life monitoring and testing, and audit.

Execution & leadership
I've never been a project manager and have no interest in being one — but I've delivered results through major, complex programs of work throughout my career. The distinction matters: execution is a mindset and a discipline, not a job title. At ANZ I led a $5m lending product simplification program, a $3m loan remediation project, the data and product preparation for a $5bn portfolio migration, and the repricing of 150,000 merchants. At GSB I co-created and launched a complete digital banking platform within 12 months of joining, and an embedded finance product model shortly afterwards.

I lead teams by providing clear direction, high expectations, and the kind of genuine support that enables people to grow and do their best work. Feedback I have received from my teams reflects what that looks like in practice — with colleagues describing the culture I created as the best they've experienced.

Led the design, build and commercialisation of a new digital banking proposition for SME customers — built on Constantinople's BaaS platform and delivered through both GSB's direct channel and an embedded finance partnership with MYOB (Solo Money).   • Co-created and launched the platform from scratch within 12 months, establishing transaction accounts, savings, term deposits, NPP payments, invoicing with Stripe payment links, and MYOB/Xero accounting integrations.
  • Held genuine 1st line credit accountability — designed credit policies, multi-factor risk-based pricing models for unsecured and secured lending and led model assurance. Identified configuration errors before they impacted customers.

Managed a team of 45 including multiple agile squads. Led two major innovation initiatives and a board-level strategic review.

  • Repriced the entire backbook of 150,000+ merchants following the 2016 interchange reforms — passing savings to customers, improving margins by ~15%, and migrating Corporate/Institutional customers to interchange-plus pricing with no material customer impact.
  • Supported the BladePay mobile POS development — an Android-based payment device and developer ecosystem for hospitality and retail. Secured improved funding, restructured the project, and drove a commercially-focused culture to turn around a high-profile initiative.
  • Supported a strategic review of ANZ's entire merchant services business (led by Bain & Co), resulting in a board-level recommendation to pursue a partnership operating model.
  • Implemented end-to-end value chain management, significantly improving coordination across complex organisational structures and reducing operating losses.

Led product management for ANZ's commercial lending and deposit portfolios — end-to-end lifecycle accountability across overdrafts, term loans, commercial bills, market-based facilities, indemnity guarantees, asset finance, transaction accounts, cash management, term deposits and statutory trust accounts. Served SME, mid-market and corporate segments.

  • Developed and launched a new market-based loan facility to replace commercial bills — drove $1bn+ in sales in the first 12 months through direct sales team engagement and distribution support.
  • Led a $5m overdraft and term loan simplification program, eliminating complexity for customers and staff while improving margins.
  • Supported migration of a $5bn commercial bills portfolio from a problematic legacy system to LoanIQ — maintaining continuity of service and correcting historic database discrepancies across 6,000 facilities.
  • Led a $3m remediation project to resolve a systemic issue with term loan repayment calculations, assembling a cross-functional task force and remediating affected customer accounts.
  • Fixed a high-risk statutory trust account portfolio — rebuilt regulator relationships, renegotiated contracts, improved systems and positioned ANZ as industry leader.
  • Built real-time deposit pricing and margin analytics, and created a commercial pricing committee and monthly review cadence used at GM level.

  • Provided strategic market entry analysis for a global acquiring business entering Australia — covering product, commercial, customer and regulatory dimensions.
  • Developed AML/CTF policy for a large payment business preparing for AUSTRAC enrolment.

Engaged by a start-up challenger bank to design, from the ground up, a banking proposition targeting Australian customers with strong ties to Asia. The work spanned the full conceptual build — target segment definition, customer value proposition, product roadmap, distribution strategy, and the detailed requirements to deliver it through a partner bank's platform under a "bank-as-a-platform" arrangement.

  • Defined the customer value proposition end-to-end — grounded in the specific needs of Asian-Australian consumers and business owners, from language support and culturally-aligned digital channels through to credit models suited to customers with limited local credit history.
  • Designed a phased product roadmap across deposits, lending, cards, payments, foreign currency and trade — sequencing a deliverable Phase I against a longer-term ambition spanning business banking and wealth.
  • Developed a detailed, launch-ready requirements document covering origination (digital, assisted and broker channels), products, pricing, credit and fraud risk, KYC/AML, servicing and data — the blueprint a partner bank would build against.
  • Structured the commercial and risk-sharing model between the challenger and its prospective platform partner, including how pricing control and credit risk appetite would migrate as the challenger took on more balance sheet exposure over time.
  • Assessed a specific partnership opportunity with a member-owned bank as the platform provider, mapping the challenger's requirements against the partner's existing systems and capabilities.

Engaged by a salary-packaging and employee-benefits provider exploring a financial wellbeing platform as a way to diversify revenue beyond its core business. Over a three-month engagement I shaped the proposition across eight service areas, designed and ran the qualitative and quantitative research to validate it, and translated the findings into an evidence-based view of which features to prioritise — giving the board a clear, market-tested basis for its investment decision.

  • Defined the proposition across eight service areas — financial education, account aggregation, budgeting and tracking, bill management and pay access, everyday-spend savings, innovative vehicle leasing, wealth-building, and a guided "hub assistant" — including the CVP and candidate commercial model for each.
  • Designed the full research program: wrote the briefs, defined the hypotheses and assumptions to test, and engaged a specialist agency to run business-qualitative, consumer-qualitative and consumer-quantitative research, adapting the approach to COVID-era constraints.
  • Built the concept stimulus that anchored the research — articulating each service in plain, customer-facing language so participants reacted to a concrete proposition rather than an abstract idea.
  • Surfaced the decisive commercial insights: strong overall appeal, but real adoption barriers around employer risk-aversion, data privacy, liability and proximity to regulated advice. Mapped each service on relevance versus perceived risk to separate the safe, high-value features from the appealing-but-risky ones.
  • Developed the financial model — revenue drivers across product, cross-sell, acquisition and retention, a marginal cost model, and sensitivity and scenario analysis to surface the critical success factors.
  • Closed by leaving the client a detailed quantitative analysis to prioritise features by demand and commercial potential, plus a view of the operating model and capabilities required to deliver.
